Dear Friends,

We were struggling with what to write when it occurred to us that all we really need to say is simply "Thank you." We are honored to have your trust, friendship and business. After 26 years we have no idea where the time has gone, but our "best salesmen" keep growing!

Wishing you a good year full of precious memories,

Brian, Wren, Olivia and Hana

Thanks 2008

Design Shoji Introduces The Bamboo Katrina Door.

Developed for use in Katrina temporary housing units, these newly designed Bamboo Katrina Doors feature the same fine detailing, fit and finish that all Design Shoji panels are known for. Katrina Door Sample

A tight budget required us to simplify the basic door design, despite the fact that these panels would need to withstand real abuse on a daily basis. Selected to separate rooms in a 600 sq. ft. unit, we had to assume the doors would be bumped around often.

Katrina SampleWe are excited with the result - a simple, refined bamboo panel, engineered to last. The rigid insert will not dent, scratch or puncture, and is held in securely by the bamboo frame. As with all our shoji, our Bamboo Katrina panels can be expected to last the lifetime of the home.

Unlike anything else on the market, our Bamboo Katrina panels offer the specifier a surprisingly durable and well-built door at an attractive price point. Available in 2 standard finishes, and our 6 custom stain and lacquers.

Design Shoji presents . . . "Custom shoji for a narrow space"

Shoji specification:

Grid: D-10
Insert: Fiberglass synskin
Finish: Ramin wood with standard red oil/wax finish
Design: Design Shoji

Do you love the look of shoji but lack wall stack space? Are your windows close
together but different sizes? Do you need window coverings that provide good
climate control without darkening the room?
With a little design magic, your windows can be completely covered, your views
can be preserved, and the disparate openings unified with the versatile shoji screen.

Design Shoji details that make this installation work:

  • Trim and hardware are minimized so that the two window treatments appear the
    same, yet are completely functional.
  • Panels sizes are similar widths so that the two areas match.
  • A simple horizontal grid draws the eye across these narrow screens, and keeps
the rectangles proportionate to each other for a well- balanced look.
  • A scrubbable insert is used in anticipation of the inevitable spills or outdoor
dust that these doors will be subjected to.
  • Finally, the wood finish selected matches teak dining room set to create an
elegant vignette in this sunny corner.

The result? An eye-catching, easy-to-use shoji installation that creates a relaxing, inviting area for that morning cup of coffee or casual dining.

Design Shoji panels chosen for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center

We recently completed several bifolding units for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Featuring American make architectural glass, Italian castors, concealed hinges from Japan, and oversized domestic maple frames, these doors were truly a product of our global economy. Designed to create a feeling of privacy and security for the client, while being quick and easy to operate for the nursing staff, these heavy duty shoji doors were an intricate and challenging puzzle. Thank you Cedars-Sinai, HGA Architects, and Pacific National Group for a great project!.

"Hi All, First I would like to thank each and every one of you for making this very difficult phase happen. The owner and architect are very happy with how the space turned out. Everybody that comes in here can’t stop saying what a great job I did and I keep on telling them it’s all because I had great subs and vendors. Again thank you very much for that..." - Louie (Contractor)
