Oversized Door

9′ tall sliding shoji panels separate areas in this home. Fine millwork details such as special half-lap joints with protruding, angled grids, and wider frames with a custom stain match allow the shoji to blend seamlessly with the rest of the architectural millwork in this residence. An extra center rail was added to accommodate the routed hand pulls and to align with a similar detail on solid wood doors used elsewhere in the home.

In addition, a center spline groove is also visible on one stile edge; this enables 2 panels on the same track to interlock when closed, eliminating a light line where the panels butt together.

These panels, which were 10 years old when this photo was taken, illustrate the durability and intricacy of the joinery that we are known for at Design Shoji. As in all our projects, the unusual detailing is what makes these doors extraordinary and a perfect match for this interior.
